Experimental Radio News

Benn Kobb

Happy New Year all,

While I am job searching, as a side hobby I have started an occasional newsletter called Experimental Radio News.

It contains reports of interesting licenses the FCC has granted in the Experimental Radio Service (FCC Part 5).

It's an expansion of the Twitter feed @experimradio which I have been running for some time. The newsletter format permits more content than a Twitter tweet.

The newsletter is free for the time being. Perhaps if enough subscribers come on board, it may have a subscription fee in the future.

The first issue is online; I am working on the second and it will arrive when it's ready.

Re: ARISS SSTV event December 28 - January 1

The ISS was in the neighborhood this morning. I woke up to find four SSTV images that were fair or good.

I left my transceiver on all night, tuned to 145.8 MHz FM. I could turn the sound down, so as not to wake up the house, because the audio was piped to my PC by my SignaLink USB interface. The MMSSTV software was also running, and it keeps decoded images in its History section.

You can see the images here ...

Tuesday December 24: No Newsline, but there will be a net at 7:30 pm EST

Michael Callaham

I have updated the club web page to note that there will be no Amateur Radio Newsline transmission on Tuesday, December 24, on the W4WVP 2-meter repeater, but there will be an Arlington County Net session, with Paul KI4PW calling for check-ins at 7:30 pm local time, as advertised for the "Arlington Co Net" in the ARRL Net Directory.

Although Amateur Radio Newsline will not be transmitted over our repeater on December 24, you may download the .mp3 audio file or the script text file at the Newsline link on the club web page at w4wvp.org .

Re: Who wants to be Net Control Station December 17?

I can't commit to 12/17, but I can do the infamous "fifth Tuesday," which
this year is New Year's Eve. A double whammy.

AMSAT OSCAR-7 turns 45. It was launched 11/15/74, and is still in
operation. It has had quite the career, including its clandestine use by
Poland's Solidarity movement in the 1980s.

I probably won't be able to attend as I am working on this weekend's SW Radiogram.

I hope you can attend and tell me how it goes.
