FCC solicits comments on encryption in Amateur Radio
The FCC today requested public comment on a Petition for Declaratory Ruling regarding the transmission on amateur radio frequencies of “effectively encrypted or encoded messages, including messages that cannot be readily decoded over-the-air for true meaning.”
The filing should be of particular interest to anyone involved in Winlink, which it cites as facilitating violations of FCC rules.
The petitioners are New York University professor Ted Rappaport N9NB and retired FCC engineer Mike Marcus N3JMM of Cabin John MD.
